It was a dark and stormy night, It had been raining for days.  The wind resembled a ceiling fan the size of
Texas.  When all of the sudden lightning began striking repeatedly in the same spot!   All at once a life-form
rose out of the dirt of the ground!  A short being stood there, amidst the light.  An instrument appeared next
to him, a drum kit to be exact.  In a moments notice the being leaped onto the drum set!  and began playing;
playing insanely fast!!  He was the greatest drummer ever to hit the Earth!  His name was
Drumorphio!

*2,000 miles away, in Maryland, a Christian Melodic Metalcore named Upperdeck, who consequently had
nothing to do with the beginning of this biography, was playing a show.  Their drummer was a man named
Michael “Paco” Gottselig. *

Mike began playing drums around the age of 12, and at the age of 15 he joined his first band  “Yrosion” an
80s Metal band.  The band didn’t last long but Mike didn’t stop playing.  At the age of 17 Mike and his best
friend Brad Kegg began playing in a Metallica cover band called “Shattered Reality”.  The band last
probably 6 months, and only played one show(which by the way was accidental, it’s a great story.  Ask Mike
about it at a show sometime.)  Mike stopped playing in a band for a little while,  until he and Brad joined the
local punk band Even Steven.  He was in Even Steven for quite a few years and the band managed to get
signed to Rotten Egg Records, record a full length, play the first few Warped Tours, and record several
songs in between.  The band was in the middle of writing their second album when they decided to call it
quits.  So Mike turned to a life of measuring and plotting.  He moved to California and became…a surveyor.
While there Mike accepted Jesus as his personal Savior.  Several years later Mike, with his wife Jenn and
two kids Daerien and Tre, moved back to Maryland.  He started playing drums for the Potomac Heights
Baptist Church Praise Team, where he met Wesley and Nikki Hackelton.  Three years after moving back
Mike felt God telling him to start another band.  He originally wanted to call it “Gotthacko” but, thankfully,
guitar players Wesley and Devin decided that wasn’t the best idea in the world and opted for the name
“Upperdeck”.  The name stuck and, with edition of Cameron on bass, Mike’s first Christian band had begun.
